EPCglobal Inc™ is the organization
entrusted by industry to establish and support the EPCglobal Network™ as the global
standard for real-time, automatic identification of information in the supply chain

The EPCglobal Network™ is a framework that enables immediate, automatic
identification and sharing of information on items in the supply chain, In that
way, the EPCglobal Network™ will make organizations more effective by enabling true
visibility of information about items in the supply chain. Using a combination of
technologies and harnessing the power of current information systems, the EPCglobal
Network will provide for immediate, automatic, and accurate identification and location
of any item in the supply chain of any company, in any industry, anywhere in the
world.
The concept of the Network was conceived by the Auto-ID Center, a global research team directed through the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with labs around the world. Their research effort was supported by more than
100 leading companies. Companies and consumers are the ultimate beneficiaries of
the EPCglobal Network as it enables organizations to be more efficient, flexible
and responsive to consumer needs.
Subscribing to EPCglobal enables your company to know what is really
happening in terms of the development and implementation of EPCglobal standards
within industries and around the world. It also enables your company to influence
the development of standards for the implementation of Radio Frequency Identification
(RFID) technology in the supply chain to ensure that they meet your company’s needs
and those of your business partners. In addition, by participating in the various
EPCglobal Action and Working Groups, you will be able to exchange experiences with
other companies involved in implementing EPC technology.
All subscriptions are handled through
the EPCglobal agent in the country in which your company is headquartered. A single
subscription provides all of a company’s subsidiaries worldwide with the same EPCglobal
benefits. The subscriptions are managed by the
local agents
(GS1 Member Organizations).
There are 101
GS1 Member Organizations (MOs) around the world. These local Member Organizations
provide implementation and support services to specific regions of the world, including
training and education on implementing and using the EPCglobal Network™ and links
with other subscribers to take part in groundbreaking EPC pilots. Through their
participation in EPCglobal Action Groups, Member Organizations from all over the
world leverage more than thirty years of proven standards-creation expertise.
